Hyrox is a class-based strength and cardio training programme similar to CrossFit, with more of a focus on functional cardio.

New to all of this? Here's the short version — no jargon required.

  • What is CrossFit?

    Varied, functional movement — think lifts, gymnastics, cardio — in coached classes. You’re not alone on a treadmill; you train with a crew and a shared plan.

  • Something different every day

    Workouts change daily so you stay well-rounded and never get bored. Same whiteboard, same energy — different stimulus each time you walk in.

  • Scaled to your level

    New to the gym? Returning after a break? Chasing a PR? Coaches adjust load, movements, and volume so the workout fits you — not the other way around.

  • Friendly, no-judgement crew

    People cheer for each other’s first pull-up and heaviest lift alike. Show up as you are; the community meets you there.

CrossFit vs a typical gym: which is right for you?

CrossFit is a coach-led programme with a focus on community.

If you want structure, feedback, and people who will help to hold you accountable then CrossFit is for you.

We also run open-gym sessions, allowing you to work out independently with your own focus areas between classes, similar to a typical gym.

Tyron and Steven founded Motley Crew to build a box where coaching matters, every level is welcome, and community runs deep. The crew extends far beyond us — we run a large team of coaches across Waterkant and Seaboard.

Tyron Hatch

Originally from Durban, Tyron played age-group provincial rugby and cricket together with senior national baseball and softball. After his Bachelor of Education, he taught Science and Sports Science at a high school in Durban. He moved to Cape Town in 2011 and stepped into the fitness industry as a personal trainer.

The CrossFit bug bit in 2013 after watching a local throwdown and highlights on ESPN. He went deep into CrossFit as a way of life — on a Regionals team that year, then qualifying as an individual athlete in 2014. Since then his focus has shifted to coaching and being the best coach he can be.

Steven van Jaarsveld

Steven’s favourite part of coaching is building camaraderie and a space where people can express themselves. He gets energy from helping others — whether that’s a competitive athlete refining technique or someone chasing their first pull-up. Putting a smile on people’s faces is his jam.

He’s been doing CrossFit since 2012 and has real respect for the sport and the movement. As an entrepreneur, he respects what CrossFit stands for — challenging the status quo to build better human beings.

I’ve never done CrossFit — can I start here?+

Yes. We scale every workout to your level — total beginners train next to experienced athletes. Tell the coach you’re new, show up consistently, and we’ll build from there. No ego, no judgement, no pressure to match someone else’s numbers.

Do I need to book before I visit?+

We recommend booking your first class or drop-in online so we can expect you and plan the floor. Walk-ins may be possible — message us if you’re unsure.

What’s the difference between Waterkant and Seaboard?+

Two locations, same crew mindset. Timetables and parking differ — pick the one that fits your day; we’ll help you get set up at either box.

What should I bring to my first class?+

Comfortable training clothes, indoor shoes, a water bottle, and a towel. Come ready to move — we’ll walk you through the rest.

Do you offer drop-ins for visitors?+

Yes — Cape Town welcomes plenty of travellers. Book a drop-in and we’ll slot you into class. Say hi to the coach when you arrive.

How do I ask about memberships or pricing?+
